Goblet of Fire Review at Aint It Cool News
This news item is a little late in the delivery, but as they say "better late than never", or "better that Darren post something on this site soon, or he'll lose the 6 regular readers he has". Either one of those sayings will do for this post. The good folks over at Aint It Cool News put up a review last Wednesday for Harry Potter, and the Goblet of Fire. The review was submitted by a reader, and is detailed, descriptive, and full of spoilers, so if you haven't read the books, you might not want to read the entire review. You also might not want to delay in reading the books, because they're fun reading, and are now all available in "will not attempt to rape your pocketbook to the tune of $50" paperback format.
The gist of the review is that this new movie is:
1. The best movie so far
2. The darkest movie so far
3. The best special effects in Harry Potter so far
4. Severely trimmed-down story-wise from the book
5. Likely to scare the living crap out of children
Everything in that list makes this movie very appealing to me (except for number 4, but the film is already 2 hours 40 min; Any longer and they'd have to stop it in the middle for kids to take bathroom breaks).
If you're still not in on the Harry phenomenon, read or rent the stories now, so that you won't feel left out when everyone is talking about how much more kick-asser this film is compared to the others.

ummm ... even though lots of people do it, using rape in that context = not cool.

Duely noted. However, I'd like to hear what other people think of this metaphor. Anyone else care to comment? Is it not appropriate?

yes, I should have qualified my statement with an "I think ..." and not made it sound like a universal opinion.
